This Privacy Policy describes how the NMU AR mobile application (the "App") handles information. The App is an augmented-reality experience published by the Archaeological Survey of India ("ASI", "we", "us", or "our") that lets visitors explore museum artifacts in 3D, view them in augmented reality, and access information about the objects, the museum, and the surrounding ruins.
In short: the App does not collect, store, or share any personal data. There are no user accounts, no sign-up, and no tracking. You can use the App without providing any personal information about yourself.
1. No personal data collected
We have designed the App to function without collecting personal data. Specifically:
- We do not require you to create an account, register, or sign in.
- We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifying information.
- We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to our servers or to any third party.
- We do not use advertising identifiers and do not show third-party advertisements.
- We do not sell or share any user information, because we do not collect any.
2. Camera and augmented reality
The App uses your device's camera to display artifacts in augmented reality and to detect surfaces in your environment. Camera frames are processed in real time on your device for the sole purpose of rendering the AR view. We do not record, save, store, or transmit any images or video from your camera. Nothing from the camera leaves your device.
3. Internet access
The App may use an internet connection to download 3D models, artifact information, and updates. These requests retrieve content; they do not send any personal data about you.
4. Device permissions
The App requests only the permissions it needs to operate. You can review or revoke these at any time in your device settings.
| Permission | Why it is used |
|---|---|
| Camera | Required to display artifacts in augmented reality. Frames are processed only on your device and are never stored or transmitted. |
| Internet / Network access | To download 3D models, artifact information, and updates. No personal data is sent. |
5. Google Play and your device
The App is distributed through the Google Play Store. Google and your device's operating system may automatically collect certain standard, aggregate technical information — such as the number of installs, crashes, or general device statistics — independently of the App and under Google's own policies, which we do not control. You can read Google's policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy. This activity is governed by Google, not by ASI, and is separate from the App's own behaviour described above.
6. Children's privacy
Because the App does not collect personal data from any user, it does not knowingly collect personal data from children. The App is suitable for visitors of all ages.
7. Security
Since the App does not collect or store personal data, there is no personal information for us to lose or expose. Content downloaded by the App is delivered over secure connections (HTTPS/TLS). No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but no personal data is involved in these transfers.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date shown above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
9. Contact
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us using the details in the Contact section at the end of this page.
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the NMU AR mobile application (the "App"), published by the Archaeological Survey of India ("ASI", "we", "us", or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. License to use the App
Subject to these Terms, ASI grants you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use the App on a device you own or control, solely for your own non-commercial use to explore the museum's artifacts, content, and surrounding site.
2. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the App or its content;
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code, 3D models, or assets, except where permitted by law;
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in any unlawful manner;
- Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the App or any systems used to deliver its content;
- Remove or obscure any proprietary or attribution notices in the App or its content.
3. Augmented reality and safety
Stay aware of your surroundings. The App overlays digital content onto a live camera view. Always remain alert to your physical environment — people, exhibits, barriers, stairs, and uneven ground. Do not use the App while walking in hazardous areas, near restricted or fragile exhibits, or anywhere that requires your full attention.
You are solely responsible for your conduct and safety while using the App. To the extent permitted by law, ASI is not liable for any injury, loss, or damage resulting from your interaction with the physical environment while using augmented-reality features.
4. Intellectual property
The App and all of its content — including 3D models of artifacts, text, descriptions, images, audio, design, logos, and software — are owned by or licensed to the Archaeological Survey of India and the Government of India, and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws, including the provisions governing antiquities and protected monuments. Except for the limited license granted above, no rights are transferred to you. Artifacts and cultural materials represented in the App are part of India's national heritage and must not be copied, reproduced, or reused without prior written permission from ASI.
5. Google Play and third parties
The App is distributed through the Google Play Store, and your download and use of the App is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. ASI is not responsible for the practices of Google or any other third party. The App does not integrate third-party advertising or tracking services.
6. Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, set out in Part One of this page above. In summary, the App does not collect, store, or share any personal data.
7. Availability and updates
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the App or any of its features at any time, with or without notice. We may release updates that you may need to install for the App to function correctly. We do not guarantee that the App will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
8. Disclaimers
The App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. While ASI strives for accuracy, the information presented about artifacts, the museum, and the surrounding ruins is provided for general informational and educational purposes only, and we do not warrant that it is complete, accurate, or current.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ASI and its officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the App. The App is provided free of charge for educational and cultural purposes.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time if you breach these Terms. Upon termination, the license granted to you ends, and you must stop using and delete the App. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law — will continue to apply.
11. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts located in New Delhi, India, for the resolution of any disputes arising out of or relating to the App or these Terms.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date shown above. Your continued use of the App after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
